Scores on the individual ASVAB subtests are reported as raw scores. Raw scores are scores that have a meaning relative to a national sample of approximately 6,000 other test takers ages 18 to 23. Roughly half of the population scores at or above a standard raw score of 50.  And about 16% of the population scores at or above a raw score of 60.

Your VE (Verbal Expression) score is computed from your raw scores on the Paragraph Comprehension (PC) and Word Knowledge (WK) subtests.  It’s a primary component of your AFQT score.

The AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score is computed using the raw scores from four ASVAB subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), and Word Knowledge (WK). Your AFQT score determines whether or not you qualify to enlist in the military branch of your choice.

AFQT scores are reported as percentiles ranging from 1 – 99. An AFQT percentile score indicates the percentage of examinees in a reference group that scored at or below that particular score. Thus, an AFQT score of 90 indicates that the examinee scored as well as or better than 90% of the nationally-representative sample. An AFQT score of 50 indicates that the examinee scored as well as or better than 50% of the nationally-representative sample.

There are additional composite score results. These composite scores determine your qualifications for various military jobs within several branches of the Armed Services.
