STUDY TECHNIQUES
STUDY TIPS
- You must study daily!
- Study environment must be quiet (no distractions).
- Create a study routine by studying every day at the same time and in the same location.
- Study one subject for 20-30 minutes.
- Take a 10 minute break.
- Switch to a different subject for an additional 20-30 minutes.
- Don’t over study. A small increment of study time is more effective.
- Focus on how to apply the knowledge that you have learned.
- Find a reason to study daily. Create your motivation.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAM
- Take the Assessment Test.
- Use the results to identify your weak subjects.
- Devote two weeks of study to each weak subject.
- Focus on the study guide sections and practice problems.
- Do all of the practice problems for each weak subject.
- Analyze and understand every mistake.
- Now it’s time to take a full-length test to gauge your progress.
- Approach each practice test as if it were the real thing. Impose the same time constraints and testing conditions.
- Continue to study and take a full length test every week or two.
- In the last few weeks before test day review each of the sub tests that you are already strong.
EXAM DAY STRATEGIES
- Arrive at the testing center 15 minutes early so that you can settle in and not feel rushed.
- Read each question carefully.
- Identify relevant words and numbers.
- Eliminate extra information.
- Use pictures and diagrams to help answer the question.
- Look for patterns.
- If a math computation seems lengthy try approximating the answer.
- Always attempt to eliminate answers that seem very wrong.
- Remember this test is timed!
- The computerized version of this exam will not allow you to go back to unanswered questions.
- There is no penalty for incorrect answers on the paper version so if you don't know the answer - GUESS!
